About

Vision & Mission

Our vision is to see Muslims in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area come to an understanding and experience of Islam that is spiritual, inspiring, vibrant, articulate, and merciful and to creatively and effectively transmit this ethos to our communities.

Our mission is to establish devotion to God in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah, upon the way of traditional scholars, through prayer services, educational programs, social services, and by working with interfaith partners toward the overall benefit of the community.

Programs & Classes

In order to operationalize the vision and mission of the Medina Center, the Center holds several weekly activities and conducts special events

Community Programs:

Medina Center’s regular ongoing programs include:

  • Worship and devotion (jumu’ah prayer, dhikr gatherings, and congregational prayers)
  • Educational programs in the form of traditional halaqahs, informational seminars, and sessions with visiting scholars and or students of sacred knowledge
  • Arabic language courses and Quranic recitation and tajweed classes
  • Religious and spiritual advice and counseling services

Weekend School for Youth:

The Children’s Islamic Studies Program at the Medina Center will offer a comprehensive curriculum that teaches both the outer sunnah of amal (deeds) and the inner sunnah of akhlaq (character). We emphasize comprehension as well as memorization so that our students acquire proficiency in those branches of Islamic knowledge necessary for the fulfillment of a Muslim’s daily obligations and, inshallah, develop a love for the sunnah. To ensure that they receive ample and efficient instruction, students are assigned to a class based on their individual needs and their prior experience.

The course of study includes

  • Islamic ritual practice (fiqh)
  • Theology (aqida),
  • The biography of the Prophet Muhammad, salallahu alayhi wa salam
  • Islamic history
  • Etiquette (adab)
  • Good character (akhlaq).

Distance Learning:

Through relationships with Islamic Scholars and institutions in the Muslim World, Medina Center will offer distance learning programs taught by traditional scholars using modern technology to offer classes and other programs through online audio/video streaming. These same relationships can be used to help the dedicated student who would like to take their study of sacred knowledge to another level and find suitable programs for continuing concentrated studies of Arabic language and Islamic Studies.

Deen Intensive Courses:

Medina Center will be hosting deen intensive courses to teach sacred knowledge in the traditional way through teachers who have received authentic chains of transmitted knowledge that link back through major Islamic Scholars to the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).

Core courses to be covered in the deen intensive programs include:

  • Aqida (the foundations of Islamic creed)
  • Quranic Sciences
  • Fiqh (jurisprudence) according to the four traditional schools.
  • Hadith
  • Sirah (Life of the Prophet, salallahu alayhi wa salam)

Deen intensive courses will be offered seasonally during Summer and Winter breaks and Ramadan.
